Carnale?

The term 'Carnale' is used in some Chicano communities as a term of endearment for a family member. Blood relation is not important in the use of this term, the meaning is simply someone that you live your daily life with and that you would die for as well. The term 'Carnalismo' describes the essence of that bond, as well as the actions involved in respecting that bond.
The terms for these concepts were not introduced to me until later in life, however I felt the meaning of them at a young age as I was adopted and developed the outlook that anyone who treated me like family....is.

I meet people who seem to understand the spirit of this philosophy to varying degrees, and I often wonder what is the difference between how people feel where this relationship dynamic is concerned? Is it bad relationships which have hardened them to such involvement? Is it their upbringing? Is it their statute in life as a whole? I suppose that it could be a combination of these things but I know one thing about this for sure; the less carnalismo an individual shows, the less I think of them personally. Right or wrong, that is how I feel.

I know this quick thought will be imbibed differently by various people and I have honestly left a lot to the imagination on purpose here because of the adaptability of this philosophy, but I'd like you to consider two things. One; who are the folks in your life that you would call Carnale? Two; how do you show them your carnalismo....?
